There is no restriction on the number of attempts a person can take for acquiring a PSTET Certificate. A person who has qualified PSTET may also appear again for improving his/her score

This weightage to the PSTET scores in the recruitment process; however, qualifying the PSTET would not confer a right on any person for recruitment/employment as it is only one of the eligibility criteria for appointment.

State Council of Educational Research & Training, Punjab invited online applications for the Punjab State Teacher Eligibility Test (PSTET). Interested candidates can apply online on or before 10 December 2013.
Important Date
  • Opening Date of Online applications: 20 November 2013
  • Closing Date of Online applications: 10 December 2013
  • Dates of Deposit of fees: Between 20 November 2013 to 11 December 2013
  • last date of receipt of application forms: 16 December 2013
  • Date of uploading of Admit cards: 18 December 2013
  • Date of PSTET-I (Morning) & PSTET-II (Evening) Examination: 28 December 2013
PSTET Details
  • Paper I: For Classes I-V
  • Paper II: For Classes VI-VIII
Educational Qualification
  • For Classes I-V (Primary Stage):  12th or its equivalent with minimum 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2- year Diploma in Elementary Education. OR 12th or its equivalent with minimum 45% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education in accordance with the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure), Regulations, 2002. OR 12th or its equivalent with minimum 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed). OR 12th or its equivalent with minimum 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education). OR Graduation and passed or appearing in final year of two year Diploma in Elementary Education.
  • For Classes VI-VIII (Elementary Stage):  Graduation and passed or appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education. OR Graduation with minimum 50% marks and passed or appearing in 1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed). OR Graduation with minimum 45% marks and passed or appearing in 1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed), in accordance with the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure) Regulations issued from time to time in this regard. OR 12th or its equivalent with minimum 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 4-year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed). OR 12th or its equivalent with minimum 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 4-year B.A/B.Sc.Ed or B.A. Ed/B.Sc.Ed. OR Graduation with minimum 50% marks and passed or appearing in 1-year B.Ed. (Special Education).
Application Fees:
  • For Paper – I or Paper – II one of these: General / BC / OBC Category candidate has to pay Rs.500/- and SC / ST Category / Differently Abled candidate has to pay Rs.300/-.
  • For Paper – I and Paper – II both: General / BC / OBC Category candidate has to pay Rs.1000/- and SC / ST Category / Differently Abled candidate has to pay Rs.600/-.
  • Ex-Servicemen Self-only candidates are exempted from payment of fees.
Selection Process
Selection of the candidate will be made on the basis of their marks obtained in the written examination.
How to Apply
  • Eligible candidates may apply online through website www.tetpunjab.com on or before 10 December 2013.
  • On successful submission of online application, Candidates are required to take print out of the computer generated Confirmation Page and send it by ordinary post, in an Envelope of size 12"x9" only to Post Box No: 1828, Post Office Sector-62, Mohali, Punjab, Pin-160062 before 16 December 2013.
  • Candidates should super-scribe the words "APPLICATION FOR PSTET" on the envelope containing the application copy.

STRUCTURE AND CONTENT OF PSTET 
All questions in PSTET test will be Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), each carrying one mark, with four alternatives out of which one answer will be correct. There will be no negative marking.

There will be two papers of PSTET. 
(i) Paper I will be for a person who intents to be a teacher for classes I to V.
(ii) Paper II will be for a person who intents to be a teacher for classes VI to VIII.
Note: A person who intents to be a teacher for both levels (classes I to V and classes VI to VIII) will have to appear in both the papers (Paper I and Paper II). 

Duration of examination: 
In accordance with NCTE Circular No.76-4/2010/NCTE/Acad dated 11.02.2011 regarding Guidelines for conduct of Teacher Eligibility Test, the time duration for Paper-I & Paper-II, has been mentioned as 1.30 hours in TET.

The NCTE vide letter No.F.76-1/2011/NCTE/Acad, dated 9th April, 2013, has increased the time duration for TET Examination from 1.30 hours to 2.30 hours for a period of six months or till the report of the committee for this purpose, is submitted and a decision is taken thereon, whichever is earlier. Accordingly, as per the aforesaid NCTE Notification regarding extension of time duration to complete TET will be subject to the above mentioned condition/ decision.

Nature and standard of questions:
  • The test items on Child Development and Pedagogy will focus on educational psychology of teaching and learning relevant to the age group of 6-11 years. They will focus on understanding the characteristics and needs of diverse learners, interaction with learners and the attributes and qualities of a good facilitator of learning.
  • The Test items for Language-I will focus on the proficiencies related to the medium of instruction, (as chosen from list of prescribed language options in the application form).
  • The Language-II will be from among the prescribed options other than Language-I. A candidate may choose any one language from the available language options and will be required to specify the same in the application form. The test items in language II will also focus on the elements of language, communication and comprehension abilities.
  • The test items in Mathematics and Environmental Studies will focus on the concepts, problem solving abilities and pedagogical understanding of the subjects. In all these subject areas, the test items will be evenly distributed over different divisions of the syllabus of that subject prescribed for classes: IV, by the Punjab State Government/SCERT.
  • The questions in the tests for Paper I will be based on the topics prescribed for classes: IV, but their difficulty standard, as well as linkages, could be up to the secondary stage.

  • The test items on Child Development and Pedagogy will focus on educational psychology of teaching and learning, relevant to the age group 11-14 years. The test items of Mathematics and Science will be of 30 marks each. The test items will be evenly distributed over different divisions of the syllabus of that subject as prescribed for classes VI-VIII by the Punjab State Government/SCERT.
  • The questions in the tests for Paper II will be based on the topics of the prescribed syllabus of the Punjab State for classes VI-VIII but their difficulty standard as well as linkages could be up to the senior secondary stage.
QUALIFYING MARKS
A person who scores 60% or more in the PSTET exam will be considered as PSTET pass.
  • Punjab Govt., as decided to give concession of 5% in PSTET to the persons belonging to SC/ST, OBC, differently abled persons, etc., in accordance with their extant reservation policy; 
  • This weightage to the PSTET scores in the recruitment process; however, qualifying the PSTET would not confer a right on any person for recruitment/employment as it is only one of the eligibility criteria for appointment.
APPLICABILITY
The PSTET shall apply to the Schools owned and managed by the Punjab State Government/Local Bodies and aided school.
PSTET may also apply to the unaided private schools who may exercise the option of considering the PSTET

VALIDITY PERIOD OF PSTET CERTIFICATE
  • The Validity Period of PSTET qualifying certificate for appointment will be seven years from the date of declaration of its result for all categories.
  • There is no restriction on the number of attempts a person can take for acquiring a PSTET Certificate. A person who has qualified PSTET may also appear again for improving his/her score
Evalaution of Answer Sheet
The machine - gradable Answer Sheets are evaluated with extreme care and are repeatedly scrutinized. No request for re-checking, re-assessment, re-evaluation or scrutiny of OMR Answer Sheets will be entertained. No correspondence in this regard will be entertained. 

WEEDING OUT RULES 
The records of Punjab State Teacher Eligibility Test including OMR Answer sheet is preserved upto three months from the date of declaration of result in accordance with Examination Bye-Laws
